Berkeley Design Center carries some FSC (Forest Stewarship Council) Certified as well as Recycled Content Hardwood Flooring.
Alameda Green Building Guidelines state that, Certified Wood Flooring comes from forests that are managed in accordance with sustainable forest practices. Certified wood flooring products are available in a wide variety of domestic and exotic species. Sustainable forest certification assures that the forest from which the flooring is produced is managed in a way that will assure the long-term availability of these precious woods while protecting ancient, old-growth forests. The FSC logo on a product provides consumers with an assurance that the wood they use comes from forests managed in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
Other Certifications / Legislations for the Green flooring we carry (not particularly for all) include CARB (California Air Resources Board) and The Lacey Act which intends to ensure that forests worldwide are protected from deforestation and makes it illegal for manufacturers and distributors of hardwood flooring to import wood from illegally logged trees whether within the United States or internationally.

Lyptus® is the trade name of a wood made from a hybrid of two species of eucalyptus tree, eucalyptus grandis and eucalyptus urophylla. Lyptus® hardwood comes from eucalyptus trees grown on plantations in Brazil that have been certified to the country’s national sustainable forestry standard, CERFLOR. Because eucalyptus trees can mature in just 14 years, Lyptus® hardwood offers a viable green alternative to harvesting near-extinct tropical species that may take decades to mature. Weyerhaeuser Lyptus® engineered hardwood flooring plywood base is made from native trees harvested under Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certification and is also manufactured to meet new California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. Furthermore, virtually every inch of every log is put to good use – even the residuals are used as fuel.
